Re: Interface Zero: Upgrade in Progress
Cool. I think Almighty and Mal/Serenity could know each other from before. Being 2.0's from wealthy & powerful families, being rich, working in the corporate sphere, being good shots and having an interest in adventure; we have a lot in common. At least acquaintances, probably with a budding friendship.
Almighty will tease you about the girly code name, however, even if he shares your abnormality in strength
By my count you have one more skill point to use, but I could be wrong.
Your story also got more confusing and less consistent, but I'm glad there's more of your family still alive. It's not clear why you would be responsible for your niece, and the status of your father is unclear (not that my own story is developed, mind you). Also, where is the Reynolds family based, since it's not Chicago?
You still claim extensive training in the arts of "fixing", but you lack both the skills and the occupation, so the training must have been in something else (and you may well have had it earlier, since you already worked as an agent). And since you work as an agent instead of fixer, how do you acquire the intel you feed to Stopwatch? Do you work somewhere under cover, or do you go in and out more quickly and forcefully?
What you intend to do with the private eyes is also less clear now that you yourself are an agent, instead of a fixer unable to do things himself.
What augments and equipment you're going for will be interesting to hear. With all the credits from being rich in addition to the Stopwatch funds, you're going to afford a lot of equipment. And unlike Almighty it's all going to be stuff you carry on you.

Re: Interface Zero: Upgrade in Progress
Hey guys, sorry for not being active in the discussion - AGAIN!
We are still up for tonight right? At 18?
I did see Dave mentioning I've spent one skill point too much. Didn't double check this, I'm sure you are correct, so I will drop one from my shooting skill.
Anything else I should know (a summary, since I'm at work).
See you tonight!

Re: Interface Zero: Upgrade in Progress
By my count, you only have 19 skill points spent, giving you one more available. (I suspect you may have counted the Savant ability as "1 free skill point in Stealth", when it's actually "d6 in Stealth at no skill point cost", which is equivalent to 2 free skill points.)jeronimooo skrev:I made a few modifications to Mal, after the discussion here. Mainly changed traits and skills to get the minimum reqs for the government agent edge.
You still need to select specializations for Intimidation, Persuasion, and Lockpicking.
Knowledge (Corporate) isn't clear to me. Is it meant to be a general familiarity with what corporations are out there (i.e., who produces what, which companies own each other, etc.), corporations' dirty secrets (in which case I think it may be too broad), typical corporate operating procedures (useful for getting into facilities and pretending to be an employee, or just predicting what corporate security will do), or something else?
You seem to really want that Rich edge. As a player, what do you want to get from it? You'll already have easy access (most of the time...) to plenty of top-end gear, including things that you simply wouldn't be able to buy on the open market for yourself.jeronimooo skrev:I dropped the connections edge in favor of the rich edge. outlook to develop that edge though...
I ask because I'm a little concerned that you could end up with no reason to do mercenary work with the rest of the group if you're already doing runs for Stopwatch as your day job and you don't need the few hundred, maybe a thousand, credits you'll get as your share from the jobs that are currently available to the group.
Given your original ideas on the character, I would suggest putting your leftover skill point into Streetwise and also moving another two points there from Lockpicking (giving you Streetwise d8, Lockpicking d4). You then meet the requirements for the Investigator edge (+2 to Investigation, Streetwise, and Notice rolls to search through evidence). Take Investigator instead of Rich and you've got all the background skills to be a fixer. You won't have the Fixer edge or any Connections yet, but that's because you're new in town. Make some new contacts around Chicago, though, and you can take Fixer and some Connections, which gets you to what I interpret as being your original character concept. (I could be wrong, but my impression of the original concept was that the most important points were working with Stopwatch and being a fixer. Being rich may be nice, but it never struck me as part of the core concept.)
Overall, I agree with Willard's comments on the current version of the backstory.jeronimooo skrev:I also changed a few details in the backstory.

I just came home from work with a truly awful case of the flu. I have a fever, my head is filled with mucus and I have almost completely lost my voice. So I will probably not show up tomorrow. I am really sorry but I can`t get out from under my blankets without shaking and even if I could I have all but lost my voice.
But you guys go ahead and get yourself some bounty money now! One less person you have to share with.

Re: Interface Zero: Upgrade in Progress
Sorry to hear that Sebastian!
I'll just go ahead and say that Dave's suggestions seem both sound and very much in line with the concept you've presented, jeronimoo.
About tomorrow, Dave, do you still think we can go for the 8,400 bounty on Mr. Reid, or will that be too difficult with just three people? Hopefully you can adapt and scale it appropriately, seems like something you're good at doing. Maybe we could ask Melissa Lancaster for some new directions. I'd like to start developing these contacts a little bit, and anyway it was over two weeks since the bounty was posted. You could pretend I called her in game during the week, floating the idea.
Also a request regarding the Chicago Free Press, can you add a neighborhood to the job listings? I can see us wanting to focus on jobs in certain areas, and sometimes to do some multitasking. In both cases it really helps if we have that information. I don't buy that it would be confidential: first because the job listings themselves are public, and secondly because the areas are so big and well populated that there's countless things going on there at any given time.
On a side note the market research group survey sounds vaguely interesting. Not that we'd recruit a lot of people or anything, but it could be fun to participate in and see what questions they ask

I think I am getting closer to a finished product here
@dave, I have just added the one skillpoint to knowledge and then changed that into streetwise... I think I confused the 2 of them anyways... What do you think?

Actually, I've come up with other plans...Willard skrev:About tomorrow, Dave, do you still think we can go for the 8,400 bounty on Mr. Reid, or will that be too difficult with just three people? Hopefully you can adapt and scale it appropriately, seems like something you're good at doing.
Since Mal ended up with Government Agent, I figure he should usually have a mission going for his day job (if only so that he has some agency-issued equipment available). That led to how to resolve those day job missions, which led to contemplating how to handle things if he decides to drag the rest of you into one of them.
So, since you're not particularly interested in any of the posted jobs in CFP, I figure you can get to know each other tomorrow night when Mal hires you on to help him with a Stopwatch surveillance mission. I'll give him access to some Stopwatch funds to cover "mission expenses" and they should be sufficient for each of you to make more than you did last time.
I suppose I can do that, yeah, although maybe not immediately. The bounty location table in IZ1 only uses 10 neighborhoods, so I'm going to want to expand it before starting to use it for other things. (With the listings so far, I've only been coming up with a location if it was immediately obvious to me or if you decided you were interested in the job. For the listings that don't mention locations, I'm not trying to make them confidential, I just don't know where they are either. )Willard skrev: Also a request regarding the Chicago Free Press, can you add a neighborhood to the job listings? I don't have time to check Mal on OP just now, but that sounds good.jeronimooo skrev:@dave, I have just added the one skillpoint to knowledge and then changed that into streetwise... I think I confused the 2 of them anyways... What do you think?
Also, side note that I've been forgetting to mention all day: Sebastian and I found another interested player on Saturday, so he may be showing up tomorrow, probably sometime around 16 to do character creation with me and jeronimooo.

Alright then, we'll go bounty hunting some other time.nDervish skrev:Actually, I've come up with other plans...
This makes sense and I half suspected that was the case. Do you have a list of all the other neighborhoods? Do you know if they've changed significantly from the present? Because I could easily find a map and list of those that we could use for all kinds of things. Obviously there aren't any rad zones so far, but geographically things should stay the same, shouldn't they?nDervish skrev:With the listings so far, I've only been coming up with a location if it was immediately obvious to me or if you decided you were interested in the job. I still think you have one more skill point to use, actually. Not sure how specialization works with streetwise, but either way that's no biggie. It looks like you've met all the requisites, so that's good. The edges and hindrances both work together with your new story.
Do you want us to call your character Mal, Malcom or Serenity? I guess the latter actually goes well with his desire for a calm life, more so than it did before, though to some extent you'll have to live with the girly associations
About your motivations, maybe you can fit the search for Sarah and perhaps Catherine in there to make them more relevant? Both the motivations and your family members. We're supposed to get bennies each time we're involved in that stuff, and the search for your family seems like it's going to come up more often (and be better rooted) than your suspicion of zeeks, for example.

I will look again at my motivations, yessir... Just not sure of how much I could ''abuse'' my familiy storyline to get them bennies. If I have 1 skillpoint left over, it'll go to a specialisation of some skill, though not sure which one...

Re: Interface Zero: Upgrade in Progress
The map on OP would probably be the best starting point. My thought was to make a list of everything significant enough to be labeled on there, then add to that if anything comes up that's missing from it.Willard skrev: Do you have a list of all the other neighborhoods? Obviously there aren't any rad zones so far, but geographically things should stay the same, shouldn't they?
The other source for that sort of thing would be the setting information that was supposed to come out last Friday, but I haven't seen any announcement of its actual release yet.
Streetwise in general covers getting information from people (as opposed to from written/online sources, which falls under Investigation). It also covers finding good sources to buy from or sell to. (In Hellfrost, for example, selling loot is abstracted down to a Streetwise roll to determine how much you can get for it.) The Corporate specialization just means that he's best at doing so in a corporate environment, as opposed to government workers, criminals, or general people on the street.Willard skrev: Not sure how specialization works with streetwise, but either way that's no biggie.
I definitely agree that some sort of family/niece-related Motivation would be appropriate, given the character backstory, but the zeeks one can easily come into play. There are plenty of people who make racist/sexist/etc. comments even when no member of the targeted group is present or in any way connected to the situation.Willard skrev: About your motivations, maybe you can fit the search for Sarah and perhaps Catherine in there to make them more relevant? Interestingly enough, it's also well-rooted in canon. According to Zeeks Expanded, there are almost no Human 2.0 zeeks and the general assumption is that this is due to psionic ability coming from some of the "junk" DNA that's been removed from the 2.0 gene pool. As a result, 2.0s tend to react poorly to zeeks. Whether they treat psionic ability as a sign of inferiority by definition or are simply jealous, "we're better than you in every way, but you have an ability we can never have" tends to be a volatile combination. And then there are the few 2.0 zeeks, who tend to be some of the biggest assholes you'll ever meet...
Personally, I think I'd pick +wealth as the one to replace with something family-related. Being out for money just isn't a very interesting motivation in general, IMO, unless it's setting up a clear conflict with something else.
That's not abuse, it's roleplaying!jeronimooo skrev:I will look again at my motivations, yessir... Just not sure of how much I could ''abuse'' my familiy storyline to get them bennies.
The skill points look right to me. Maybe Willard missed that you took a second Shooting specialization?jeronimooo skrev:If I have 1 skillpoint left over, it'll go to a specialisation of some skill, though not sure which one...

Re: Interface Zero: Upgrade in Progress
That map is just too damn small for us to use . Hopefully the setting fluff will be released shortly, then, so we can incorporate that. Do you know anything about the art? Seems like all of that's coming "later", and by then we'll already have established how certain things look and feel.
You're right. I just got confused by the (21 points used), which is incorrect whichever way you count the savant bonus.
You're probably also right about the zeek motivation being more interesting than wealth, but I figured this is something he must really want after the way he's been trying to squeeze it in since the beginning. And coming from a filthy rich family it would be understandable. Possibly with feelings of jealousy and a thwarted birthright that could lash out against his father, but then the business with the missing women is a far more pressing family matter. Compared to that wealth as a motivation is a real long shot. Despising/distrusting zeeks would work more immediately as an auxiliary motivator.

Yeah, that was a bit of a disappointment, but hopefully it means that this chapter is just an overview of the world as a whole and Chicago will have a chapter all to itself in the full book a month from now.bladerunner_35 skrev:Chicago isn't in.
Not that I think that's particularly likely, but I can still hope... I figure that map of Chicago will have to get used somewhere, after all, and probably in higher-resolution.
